Welcome to The Clean Street Project

Starting in June of 2019, we started cleaning up the streets in our neighborhood on our weekly walks through town. Our walk of several blocks to the farmers market and, later, coffee and doughnuts is something we rather enjoy. As part of our commitment to our community, cleaning up became part of our routine.

Our goal is to clean over 50,000 cigarette butts by the end of 2020.

20,296 butts cleaned and counting…

Our Clean Street Equipment

Pickers

Pickers like this are foldable to increase the portability after a clean up is complete. There are many types but be mindful to get equipment that has strength at the folding point.

Garbage Bags

We often use left over shopping bags. While plastic bags from places like Target are most common, sometimes using paper bags seems a bit better. Consider having one bag for trash and a second for recyclables.

Back Packs

Backpacks provide the ability to keep our hands free while picking trash and also can be used for bringing back items from a farmers market. We also have an insulated backpack for when we buy meat and milk on our travels.

Our Other Projects

Nature Scavenger Hunt

Our seven year old seems most happy when he is engaged with nature. His mission is to capture photos from his natural world that surrounds him. Check out the monthly galleries.

Lantern Fly Squad

Identifying and removing the invasive Lantern Flies is another way to keep our son active and interesting in nature, his community, and activism.

Lego Points

Lego Points are a system to earn Lego sets for cleaning up the neighborhood, great behavior, and other active community engagement.
